Florida Insurance Requirements
Florida law dictates that before a vehicle with at least four wheels can be registered, drivers must show proof of Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Property Damage Liability (PDL) insurance. A minimum of $10,000 in PIP and $10,000 in PDL is required before the state will issue valid registration. In a crash, PIP covers 80% of all medical expenses that result from injury up to $10,000, as long as it is considered an emergency. If not, only $2,500 will be covered. PDL comes into effect if another person's property is damaged during a car crash.
