Personal Injury Victims and Prescription Drug Costs
At the law firm of Chanfrau & Chanfrau, we provide exceptional legal representation to injured victims of accidents caused by the negligent and deliberately wrongful actions of others, as well as to their families. Our skilled and experienced personal injury attorneys use all of the resources at their disposal to develop and present the strongest cases possible, working tirelessly to obtain the full measure of compensation to which they are entitled on their behalf.
There are many issues that personal injury victims face that they couldn’t possibly anticipate, just as they couldn’t possibly have anticipated becoming injured in an accident in the first place. One of these issues is the cost of prescription drugs. Prescription drugs are often necessary to the health and well-being of injured victims as they recover from their accidents. In some cases, drug therapy is a lifelong concern in the aftermath of a catastrophic injury. Especially for personal injury victims without insurance, or those whose insurance plans do not cover the costs or very much of the costs of certain drugs, prescription drug costs can be prohibitive.
In considering personal injury cases and prescription drug costs, our DeLand, FL area personal injury attorneys will account for the costs of current and future medications in the damages we seek. These costs can truly add up over time and should not be the burden of the injured victim and his or her family. It is not only the goal but the duty of our lawyers to identify all such costs and make sure that they are accounted for in the settlement or jury verdict that we achieve on behalf of the client.
If you or a member of your family has been injured in an accident caused by someone else’s negligent or deliberately wrongful actions, or if you have tragically lost a family member in such an accident, please don’t hesitate to arrange for an evaluation of your personal injury case today.
The Realities of Prescription Drug Costs
With big pharmaceutical companies coming under an increasing amount of scrutiny in recent years, one might think that they would be keeping their prices steady or raising them modestly. However, this is far from the case. According to data published in the Wall Street Journal, prescription drug costs in the United States rose an astonishing 9.8 percent between May 2015 and May 2016, even as the inflation rate was just 1 percent during that span. By contrast, food and alcohol prices rose 2.8 percent during that time, and the cost of clothes and accessories rose 5.7 percent.
This was the third straight year in which the cost of prescription drugs rose at a rate of approximately 10 percent in the United States. Unfortunately, little has been done to stop this hike, and it appears that little can be done.
Our personal injury attorneys will strive to make sure, however, that the cost of your prescription drugs is accounted for in any damages you are able to obtain through your settlement or jury award.
