Of all possible types of auto accidents, none is as dangerous as the T-bone crash. Particularly in densely populated areas such as Central Florida, T-bone car accidents are distressingly common - and deadly. In fact, according to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), well over half of all auto fatalities occur in T-bone accidents.

The Daytona personal injury attorneys of Chanfrau & Chanfrau have extensive experience and success in representing victims of T-bone auto accidents and their families. We are able to offer expert accident investigation and reconstruction, which enable us to present the strongest cases possible on behalf of our clients. Aside from being among the deadliest types of accidents, T-bone accidents are also among the most difficult in which to prove fault. At Chanfrau & Chanfrau, our auto accident attorneys have the skills and resources to handle even the most complex of T-bone auto accident cases.

What Is a T-bone Accident?

T-bone accidents are also known as side-impact or broadside collisions. The front of one vehicle collides with the side of another vehicle to create a “T” shape. These accidents are particularly dangerous in that there is little protection afforded to the occupants of the vehicle being hit from the side, especially in older-model passenger cars.

Common Causes of T-bone Accidents

T-bone accidents can result from a variety of causes, including:

Depending on the severity of the impact and the size, safety features, and side impact rating of the vehicle being struck from the side, victims of T-bone accidents are at increased risk of being seriously injured. Common injuries include head and neck injuries, pelvic and skull fractures, traumatic brain injury, and - tragically - wrongful death.

Why T-bone Accident Cases Are Often Complex

Most auto accident cases are more complex than many people believe. What may seem like an open-and-shut case can actually become quite complex, especially when there aren’t many credible eyewitnesses to the accident and skilled defense attorneys enter the fray. This is especially true of T-bone accident cases.

The most common point of contention in T-bone accident cases is who had the right of way. In many cases, both drivers will claim that he or she had the right of way, and the only thing that can prevent the case from descending into an impenetrable maze of “he said-she said” is meticulous and timely accident investigation and recreation. This is why it is extremely important to seek legal counsel right away after an accident. With each hour that passes after an accident, precious evidence becomes more difficult to collect.
